Design Principle
- In butterfly valve design, when the stem passes through the disc centerline, it is called concentric.
- A single-offset valve places the stem just behind the disc centerline (opposite flow direction), reducing disc-to-seat contact before full closure and extending service life.
- In a double-offset (doubly eccentric) design, the stem is not only located behind the disc centerline but also offset laterally.
- This double eccentricity minimizes friction between the disc and seat, so the disc only contacts the seat within 1–3 degrees of rotation, ensuring smoother operation, reduced wear, and longer service life.
