SMART Transmitter Power Supply isolated barriers for hazardous area applications
The Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-STC5 series are K-System isolated barriers designed to supply 2-wire and 3-wire SMART transmitters (as well as 2-wire SMART current sources) located in Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 2, Division 1, or Division 2 hazardous areas, while transferring the 4–20 mA analog signal to the safe-area control system as an isolated current value. Digital HART, BRAIN, and Foxboro signals are superimposed on the 4–20 mA loop and transferred bi-directionally, preserving full SMART communicator access from the safe side.
Both devices supply 24 V DC via the Pepperl+Fuchs Power Rail system, feature integral 250 Ω HART resistors and test sockets for direct connection of HART communicators at the terminals, and provide selectable sink/source output modes. The key distinction is that the KFD2-STC5-Ex1.2O adds a second isolated output, functioning as a signal splitter — one field input driving two independent safe-area outputs — which is essential for applications requiring both DCS and safety system inputs from a single transmitter.
